Councillor Toni Bowler and Redland City Council are threatening the very existence of vital native wildlife habitat in the West Eprapah Wildlife Reserve at Victoria Point West, Queensland.

Without proper and throrough consultation with key stakeholders or local bushcare members Cr Bowler & Redland City Council have given the green light to destroy this vital, biodiverse habitat. The heavy machinery has moved in, native flora has been destroyed and the beginnings of a walkway have commenced.

Just as we were seeing the return of koalas to this area, albeit still exhibiting signs of stress with symptoms of 'wet-bottom' which is exacerbated by human encroachment, the final death knell has been delivered to this iconic Australian. With this wildlife reserve being turned into a human thoroughfare and psuedo-parkland koala stress levels will sky rocket. We predict 2010 will see the demise of the koala in the West Eprapah Wildlife Reserve (WEWR).

On behalf of the wildlife of the WEWR shame on you Cr Toni Bowler & Redland City Council for destroying one of Redland City's few remaining wildlife reserves.

And thanks so much Cr Bowler for spending over $750,000 of OUR money on a project that will effectively destroy this wildlife habitat.
